Chapter 1 - Nightmares

Jun stood in the middle of a gray field. The gray rocks crumbled under his feet, and there was nothing in the vast openess. In the distance, he saw three shadows. He started to run, but his feet felt heavy and the shadows were fading away. He knew who they were even from far away. They were glowing blue, red, and green...

"Ohno! Sho! Aiba!" He cried.

For a moment, Aiba turned to see who called him, but the red shadow draped his arm around Aiba's shoulder and they walked away from Jun. He continued to run, barely moving from his spot...

"It's all your fault!" Someone yelled at him. Jun whirled around and saw Nino's angry face. "You lied to me! You said you'll bring them back!"

"I...I didn't..." Jun whimpered.

Suddenly, the gray meadow turned black and shiny like glass. The ground shattered, and he fell into darkness.

"Find the talisman, boy!" A pale man with sunken eyes towered over him. Tamaki Hiroshi. "Bring me the talisman, and you can save your friends."

In the darkness, Jun heard Ohno, Sho, and Aiba's voice calling to him.

"Jun, help us!" Sho's distant voice echoed.

"Matsujun!" Aiba cried.

"Jun! Save us!" Ohno whispered.

"Ohno!" Jun tried to look for them. "Sho...Aiba! Where are you?!" He screamed.

*      *      *

Jun opened his eyes as cold sweat slid down his forehead. He sat up, panting as if he ran a marathon. He covered his face, feeling relieved it was only a dream.

"Only a dream?" Jun contradicted himself. "One day it won't be..."

He lay back on his bed and tried to get some sleep, but the morning sun already peeked through the curtains. It was summer vacation, and he was back home again. This summer was certainly feeling like a drag. He hardly went outside since all he did was read his books. He's still researching about the Vocal Wizards, but he read his textbooks ten times and came up with nothing.

The Vocal Wizards are legendary for their power. They were the first to introduce wizards the power of incantation, and records stated that they were feared and worshiped in their reign of power. They were also known for their elements Water, Fire, Wind. Earth, and Metal.

Of course, they had their downfall by a mysterious stranger who managed to defeat them. The last survivor was the Metal Vocal Wizard who made a prophecy: "And they will come once again, Five vocals of five different voices. Through truth and one love. Through blood and soul. They will take this world by storm."

But Jun knew more about the Metal Vocal Wizard than others. At least, he thinks he is the only one. He remembered that dreadful day when he learned a terrifying secret about the Vocal Wizards.

"It was the original four that created the fifth....Their purpose in power was to create...They were like gods!"

Those were the words of Tamaki Hiroshi, leader of a cult called SIN. Jun made the connection, that in order to create an element, one must sacrifice itself. Thus, the original four sacrificed part of their powers to create the fifth member, which weakened their powers for the mysterious stranger to defeat them.

Jun knew all this. But what he wanted to know was where the location of the fourth talisman. The Earth Talisman. If he could find it...

Just then, an owl swooped in from his open window. Jun immediately got off his bed and tried to calm the fluttering owl. A scroll was attached to its leg, and Jun carefully pulled it away. He quietly read the letter to himself.

"Hey, Matsujun.
Remember the letter I sent earlier about Sho inviting us over to his house for the week before school starts?
Well, it turns out his house is occupied as a base for the Elites.
So we can't exactly relax there.

So I offered my place for you guys to stay. I'll come pick you up, okay?
Be sure to pack your things.

Ohno"

Jun sighed, opened his truck, and slowly packed his things.

The Johnny Elites is an organization against the SIN. They are trying to find the talismans and keep them away from dark wizards so the talismans won't be abused. The Elites are doing a lousy job...

Sakurai Sho is a Ravenclaw. He comes from a wealthy family, and his father is part of the Elites. So it was natural for his house to be used as a base since it's a huge mansion after all. It might as well be a castle.

The letter Jun just received was from his first wizard friend Ohno Satoshi. He's also a Gryffindor like Jun, but Ohno's family is traditionally Slytherin, like his uncle Naruse Ryo. So the fact that Jun will have to stay in a household of Slytherins didn't sound so exciting. But hopefully, Jun could be wrong.

"Good morning, Jun." His mother greeted him when he walked into the kitchen.

"I'm getting picked up by my friends today," Jun replied right away. "It's only a week before school starts, so we're staying at Ohno's place."

"Oh...I see," she sighed and turned back to the stove.

After that, Jun didn't say a word.

He had been like this since he got home. Somehow, he felt disconnected with his family. Not that he didn't care for them, but his mind was somewhere else, somewhere more important than this Muggle World...

'I wonder if SIN interrogates Muggles,' Jun thought.

"Aren't you going to say good morning?" His sister glared.

"Oh, morning," Jun mumbled, going back to his train of thoughts.

It was always like this since he came back...

*        *         *

"Do you have everything?" His mother asked again.

"Everything is packed," Jun nodded.

"Are you sure you don't want to wait until your father comes back?" She asked.

"No, I don't want to wait," Jun sighed, leaning against the wall.

"You will keep in touch when you're in school, okay?" She smiled, but Jun just nodded. "Okay."

"Hey," his sister spoke. "What's gotten into you?"

"Huh?" He finally snapped out of his thought.

"You've been in your room all summer and never took your nose off those books," she started ranting. "And you hardly talk with us anymore, and you give us this cold shoulder. What's your problem?!"

"I..." Jun mumbled, not sure how to answer.

'When did they became so annoying?' Jun thought.

At that moment, they heard a car horn from outside. His mother peeked from the window and gasped.

"Oh my!" She gasped and opened the front door.

A short boy with bed hair and a pudgy face greeted her.

"Hello, Matsumoto-san. I'm Ohno Satoshi," he smiled. "Hey, Jun."

"Hey," Jun finally smiled since he came home. "You came by car?"

"Yeah," Ohno said, walking in. "They're part of my father's company. He said I could borrow them."

Jun peeked outside and his mouth dropped. Three large, black, Rolls-Royce cars parked right outside Jun's small house, and three chauffeurs waited beside each car. Ohno waved his hand without looking back at them, and they came inside the house to pick up Jun's things.

"My gosh, Ohno," Jun gawked. "Are you rich like Sho?"

"No way," Ohno chuckled. "My father is just a director of some company. This is standard."

'You call this standard?' Jun continued to stare at the nice wheels.

"Well...take care, Jun," his mother waved.

"Sure," Jun mumbled, and already left the doorstep.

A chauffeur opened a door for Jun and Ohno and bowed before he closed the door. Inside was really dark, but it had a sense of style. Jun saw a Slytherin insignia polished on the dark wood. The engine started and Jun looked out his window. He spotted his mother and sister watching him leave from inside.

Somehow, he didn't care...

"You seem quiet?" Ohno spoke, his legs crossed and leaning back in his seat. He looked like an aristocrat.

"Well...look at you," Jun pointed out. "I've never seen this side of you before...you look like your uncle."

Ohno laughed.

"I can never be like Uncle Naruse," he said, lazily resting his arm on the window seal.

"And for the record," Jun looked around the car, "I never knew wizards could drive cars."

"It's just a ways of transportation," Ohno shrugged. "Sure it's not as fast, but the ride is quite pleasant."

Jun slowly nodded.

'I guess even wizards can enjoy luxury,' Jun thought.

"You bet we do," Ohno smirked, but Jun felt his heart stop for a split second.

"You...heard me?" Jun asked. Ohno stared right back at him, not even blinking.

"Of course," Ohno said. "I haven't told you this but ever since Aiba became a Vocal Wizard, our powers increased."

Jun gulped.

Aiba Masaki is a Hufflepuff. He is someone you can never stay angry at, especially with his contagious smile. But just a few months ago, Aiba was fused with the Wind Talisman and became a Vocal Wizard, just like Sho and Ohno. They were the perfect host, the perfect body to be the second coming of the Vocal Wizards.

Ohno's sleepy eyes left Jun's and gazed out the window.

'I wonder how the others are?' Jun thought, and they rode away quietly...

*         *         *

It was only an hour drive where Ohno lives. The chauffeur opened their door, and Jun stepped out onto Ohno's property. The sky looked gray, as if it was about to rain, and Jun felt a spooky atmosphere around him.

Ohno's house was huge, not as huge as Sho's but huge enough. It was a white colonial style mansion. There was a large and open yard that continued on to the back and around the mansion.

The front doors magically opened, and inside the foyer was a bright chandelier hanging from the ceiling. The floor was black marble and the walls were white, but there were hints of green. They were representing Slytherin.

"Ah, look who finally showed up," a familiar bratty voice echoed in the foyer. Jun looked up and saw three boys from the top of the stairs. Sakurai Sho, Aiba Masaki, and Ninomiya Kazunari.

Nino is a Slytherin like Ohno's family, and he definitely isn't someone to mess with. Occasionally, Jun has a hard time understanding him, but Jun was still friends with Nino...even if it means that Nino is bisexual and attracted to Jun.

"You should have come by Floo Powder," Sho said. "You could have joined us in a game of Quidditch."

"You guys were playing Quidditch without me?!" Ohno complained, climbing up the stairs with Jun. "You could have waited."

"I couldn't wait that long," Aiba moaned, bobbing his head side to side.

"Well, it's almost lunch time. How about we eat something?" Sho suggested.

"I'll get it!" Aiba said. In a blink of an eye, he disappeared. And only a few short seconds later, he reappeared with a silver tray with sandwiches he made in super speed.

"Nice one," Sho grinned.

Jun, however, frowned.

'Aiba has incredible speed since he fused with the Wind Talisman,' Jun thought.

"Let me show you my room," Ohno said, and led them down a long hallway.

Jun glanced up at the self-portraits that lined along the hall. They each had the same green emblem design around their frame. Jun spotted two faces that resembled a lot like Ohno, his mother and father. He later saw Ohno's sister's painting and even Naruse Ryo. But there wasn't a portrait of Ohno Satoshi...

"Here, make yourself comfortable," Ohno said, and opened the door to his room.

It was suddenly bright. The regular interior design since Jun stepped into the Ohno House was black, white, and green. But inside Ohno's room, it was bright with gold and red. The Gryffindor colors...

"Ohno..." Jun gasped, staring at the different banners, scarves, and wall scrolls that represented Gryffindor. Ohno was not afraid to stand out his differences from his family.

"Your room is huge!" Aiba gawked at the five beds fitted snuggly in his room.

"Those beds weren't usually there," Ohno waved his hand. "Just for this week, since you guys are staying, I had the maids put them there."

"I'm impressed," Sho said, already lying down on his bed.

It suddenly grew quiet. No one said anything, and Jun wondered what happened. His eyes fell on Ohno's face, who stared at the ground with a blank face. Sho and Aiba also had the same expression. Nino, however, looked confused why everyone went silent. But Jun knew, and then Nino knew too...

'Talking telepathically?' Jun sighed. 'If I can distract them...'

"Hey," Nino tapped Jun's shoulder. "Let's go."

"Eh?"

"Come on," Nino beckoned with his head.

Jun looked back at the three silent boys, but they continued to remain still like statues. Jun had no choice but to leave them be. Ohno, Sho, and Aiba were obviously too caught up in their private conversation for either of them to hear out loud.

"Let's take a walk," Nino said.

"You seem comfortable," Jun commented, noticing Nino's at-ease mood.

"I've been inside this house many times," Nino chuckled. "Of course I know the place. And the employees know me too."

They were already walking down the stairs and out the back door into the garden. They strolled around the large water fountain and ventured into the trees. The paved stone was smooth and gray, crushed under Jun's feet...almost like in his dream...

"How long do you think they'll last?" Nino finally asked gravely.

"Don't say that," Jun sighed, staring at the ground.

"Jun," Nino grunted. "Three Vocal Wizards have appeared in less than two years. If this keeps up...who knows when they'll..."

"What can we do?" Jun said, stopping in his tracks. "What is there to do? They are extremely powerful and pretty much unstoppable."

Nino had his back to Jun, but Jun could tell the stress and worry that laid on Nino's hunched shoulders.

"Not even a way to bring them back to normal?" Nino asked.

"The books I brought home weren't enough," Jun said. "And it's not like I have great inside information like the Elites do. I found nothing."

"And even the Restricted Section told us nothing," Nino sighed, rubbing his face.

Jun didn't know what else to say. Ohno, Sho, and Aiba were given great powers ever since they found and fused with the Vocal Wizard Talismans. But with the power, they slowly lose themselves into it. Jun barely recognized them. And once all five are finally reunited, their subconsciousness will vanish...forever.

"Surely, Sho's father would not allow this," Jun brought up. "I'm sure none of their families want this either. The Elites must know something more than we do."

Nino turned around. His eyes looked very dull.

"I don't think even the Elites know anything," Nino said. "I don't think anyone in the world knows. No one ever dreamed that the Vocal Wizards would rise again. No one had ever thought such a thing could happen."

"SIN dreamt of it," Jun immediately said. "They wanted the Vocal Wizards to come back."

"Well, it's not like we can walk up to Tamaki Hiroshi and ask him what he knows," Nino rolled his eyes and looked away again.

'I know,' Jun's heart pounded. 'I know the secret of the Metal Vocal Wizard...but I can't tell him...not yet...' Jun ran his fingers through his hair. 'But what can I do? How can I find the Earth Talisman?'

Suddenly, Nino wrapped his arms tightly around Jun. He was shocked, and his arms were left suspended in midair, unsure if he should hug back or not.

"Uhh, Nino?" Jun spoke. "W-wha-?"

"I want Ohno back," Nino suddenly confessed. "He's not the same Ohno I used to know. He was such a doofus, sleepy, nose-picking boy. Now...he's cool, shady, and almost...cold."

Jun gulped. He noticed that too on the ride from his house. Ohno sat inside the car like he knew he was powerful. He looked almost dark and elegant.

Jun heard a sniff from Nino.

"I want Ohno back..." Nino whispered. Jun felt his heart sink even more, and he finally wrapped his arms around Nino.

"We will," Jun nodded, staring up through the tree leaves. "We'll find a way...I promise."

*       *       *

That night, Jun lay wide awake in Ohno's room with the others. Sho and Aiba snored loudly and yet Ohno and Nino managed to sleep peacefully. Jun's bed was next to the window, and he looked up at the crescent moon.

'I wonder if they can read my thoughts now?' Jun wondered, rolling over to see Ohno's sleeping face. 'It's hard to imagine those three are powerful wizards.'

Jun's eyes slowly felt heavy.

He was running up steep steps. They were slippery too, but Jun wasn't worried if he'll fall. He felt an urge to get to the top as if his life depended on it. Finally, he reached the top of the stairs and ran down the dark hallway. The floor was rough, and the walls were bumpy too.

Jun found a large stone tablet at the end of the pathway. He knew he had to push the stone door away to reveal a secret pathway. The stairs led down into the darkness, and Jun eagerly went down...

He heard someone screaming...

Jun woke up with a gasp. He was startled when he found himself on the floor. But he was also surprised to find Nino on the floor too, sleeping with a goofy grin on his face. Jun's nose was practically three inches away from Nino's. It was then he realized that Nino's arm wrapped around Jun.

"Hmm," Nino sleep-talked. "Baaaby, come back."

"Ah!" Jun gasped, but too late.

Nino scooched and suddenly planted his warm lips on Jun's. He was stuck there, not sure what to do. Jun could wake Nino up, but that will only encourage Nino's mojo. Jun could try to move Nino away, but Jun was trapped between his bed and Nino, which will wake Nino up if Jun move him.

So he was stuck there.

Nino must be having some dream, because he was eating Jun's face for all he knew. Jun couldn't do anything without risking to wake Nino up. It felt like forever with Nino's hot breath covering Jun's face. Nino's lips were soft and his tongue exploring every possible space in Jun's mouth. It was wild...and hot.

And Jun couldn't do anything.

'Hurry up!' Jun prayed.

As if he heard, Nino pulled away and still sleeping with that goofy smile on his face. He snuggled close to Jun without knowing.

"Baaaby, come back," Nino sleep-talked again.

'Curse me,' Jun complained. 'Mao-chan, forgive me.'

But then, Nino mumbled something. Jun leaned closer to see if he heard it right.

"Come back...Satoshi," Nino whispered, surprising Jun.

He stared at Nino's peaceful face and saw a single tear leak out and slide down his face...
